Bloody Head

So since the Multiple Heads project is due in a week now and I was thinking about different artists that use heads in their work. I remembered Marc Quinn who creates a self portrait, using his own blood. He creates a cast of his head then takes his own blood over a period of time and uses that as the material. He creates one of these pieces every 5 years or so and it is still ongoing. One of these pieces is also in the background in a scene in Kickass. How to become anemic 101

Across The Universe *~{Deluxe Edition}~*

Waiting on the soundtrack for Across the Universe to come in the post and decided to re-watch it. This is one of my favourite films ever, it's set in the 60's and is about the lives of a group of friends during that time. The whole soundtrack is Beatles covers and are used as a sort of loose plot for the story line. It also has quite a good cast with the likes of Eddie Izzard, Bono, Joe Cocker and Salma Hayek. In my opinion it's a brilliantly crafted film that has very clever use of imagery, though it does have a few cheesey parts but I enjoy a good ole cheese

Here's one of my favourite scenes.

Blackberry

Some parts of the dark room in the screen printing room that just looked like a mess but then I stared at it for a little bit and thought they looked quite nice.

How clever is that? A coffee break puzzle book shaped like a mug, made 'my mind smile.'

I was back home in Glasgow recently and I just loved this. Anybody who lives in Glasgow knows that in front of the Goma (Gallery of Modern Art) is a statue of a man on a horse but there is ALWAYS a traffic cone on top of his head. I actually heard on the grape vine that police have stopped taking it off because it's become a sort of landmark, although that could be false. Anyway the fact that they put that into the design was cute.

"Artist who took a bunch of drugs and did self portraits"

So since we've began our course we've been doing a few self-portrait pieces, the seaside photo board and the colour brief. It reminded me of an artist, who's name I forgot and I literally just typed into google "artist who took drugs and did self portraits" and his website was the first answer. Anyway his name is Bryan Lewis Saunders and he wanted to experience a greater perception of self so he decided to take different drugs and draw a self portrait under the influence. After awhile he suffered mild brain damage because of the quantity and time scale he took the drugs in, although he is still continuing this project just spaced out more. Here's his website; http://bryanlewissaunders.org/drugs/
